Sand-carrying cargo vessel capsizes in Turag

A cargo vessel loaded with sand was sunk on the Turag river near Aminbazar point, located on the outside of the capital in the afternoon, just a day following the sinking of a trawler in the same spot yesterday.

Nazma Akhter who is the duty official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room in Dhaka confirmed the news to our Savar reporter.

The cargo vessel suddenly went under in Aminbazar spot in the river at around 3:30 pm as it was headed towards Aminbazar Bridge that was coming via Meghna river, according to the officer in charge.

Four of the crew members who were on the ship, were able to swim to shore, said Nazma Akhter.

After receiving the information, firefighters raced to the scene and immediately began an effort to retrieve the sunken vessel. the police officer.

The trawler which was carrying 18 passengers capsized in the in the same region after being struck by a cargo ship loaded with sand.

Firefighters helped rescue five bodiesone woman and four childrenup to yesterday afternoon. Three missing persons remain after the incident.
